Guide to hydraulic oil selection for small wheeled loaders in winter

2025/11/04 14:07

Dear valued customers, as winter approaches, the cold temperatures will put your mini-wheel loader's hydraulic system to the test. To ensure smooth operation, efficient performance, and effective protection of hydraulic components in freezing conditions, LGZT strongly recommends timely replacement of winter-grade hydraulic oil for your mini-wheel loader. Insufficient oil viscosity may cause difficulties in pump suction, abnormal system pressure, delayed operation, or even component damage. Please select the appropriate oil based on your local minimum temperature using the following guidelines:

Hydraulic Oil

1、 Core standards for hydraulic oil selection (by minimum temperature)

Key Features and Usage Instructions

Minus 30℃ and below

Extreme cold hydraulic oil

Ultra-low pour point and freezing point, excellent low temperature fluidity, ensure that hydraulic oil can still flow smoothly in severe cold environment, protect pump valve

Above minus 30℃

No.32 anti-wear hydraulic oil

Low-viscosity grade (ISO VG 32) with excellent low-temperature fluidity and wear resistance, making it the top choice for winter in most cold regions.

Below minus 10℃ or above

No.46 anti-wear hydraulic oil

Medium viscosity grade (ISO VG 46) provides effective lubrication protection even in relatively mild winters (with minimum temperatures above-10°C). However, if temperatures frequently fall below this range, grade 32 is recommended.

2. Important diesel switching reminder for small wheeled loaders in winter

• Switching time: When the temperature in your area continues to drop to about 4℃, or you feel that the engine is difficult to start in winter or unstable to run.

• Fuel selection: Always switch to qualified "winter small wheeled loader diesel".

• Core advantages: Winter diesel has lower freezing point and cold filter point, which can effectively prevent diesel wax crystallization at low temperature, so as to avoid blockage of oil circuit, filter and injector, and ensure smooth cold start and stable operation of the engine.

3. Supplementary Explanations and Suggestions

1. "Minimum temperature" refers to: The above recommendations are based on historical minimum temperatures or expected extreme minimum temperatures at your device's operating or parking location, not daily average temperatures. Prepare for the worst.

2. Oil Certification and Source: We strongly recommend using LGZT's factory-certified hydraulic oil and diesel specifically designated for small wheeled loaders. Oil from unofficial sources may fail to meet the specified low-temperature performance standards, posing significant risks. Always verify the low-temperature performance parameters (e.g., pour point, freezing point, viscosity index) on the packaging.

3. Replacement procedure: When changing hydraulic oil, drain all old oil and clean the tank if necessary. Follow the equipment manual and ensure proper system venting. Replace the hydraulic oil filter simultaneously.

4. Comprehensive maintenance: Winter maintenance is not limited to oil. It also requires checking and ensuring that the coolant freezing point is low enough, the battery is in good condition, and the air filter is clean, so as to ensure the equipment overwintering.

5. Consult local service providers: If you have questions about local climate conditions or fuel selection, the most reliable approach is to consult LGZT's authorized local service providers. They possess the most accurate regional climate data and extensive experience in equipment compatibility.

Key action points:

• Check temperature: Get the expected minimum temperature at your device location.

• Change hydraulic oil: Select LGZT hydraulic oil (Extreme Cold Oil / No.32 / No.46) corresponding to the low-temperature range in the table above.

• Switch to diesel: When the temperature drops to around 4℃ or it's hard to start, make sure to switch to winter diesel.

• Use genuine products: Always use the original lubricants recommended or certified by LGZT.

• Maintenance: Perform comprehensive winter equipment maintenance, including oil replacement.

LGZT reminds you that proactive winter maintenance, including oil replacement, is crucial for ensuring reliable equipment operation in severe cold, extending service life, and avoiding unplanned downtime. Please prioritize and execute these measures on schedule. Wishing your equipment smooth winter operation!
